As we age, we tend to lose facial definition and volume. A flattened appearance to the face and profile results when volume is lost in the midface region. Cheek augmentation can restore a youthful look to the face with the use of implants. Cheek implants can be beneficial for patients who have lost facial volume, have a congenital defect, or experienced facial trauma.
Patients may choose cheek implants for many reasons:
- Restore balance to the face due to congenital anomalies, facial trauma, or natural aging
- Enhance flattened profile
- Correct gaunt appearance in midface region
When you come to Mountain State Oral & Facial Surgery, you will meet with one of our experienced oral surgeons who will discuss and evaluate your condition and create a treatment plan designed to optimize your unique facial structure. The type of implant used, where the implant is placed, the location of the incision, the anesthesia selection, and more will be discussed with you during your consultation appointment.
Your surgical procedure will begin with the administration of the anesthesia that was discussed and selected with your oral surgeon at the time of your consultation appointment. Once you are comfortable, your oral surgeon will begin the surgical procedure. A small incision will be made either in the mouth or the bottom eyelid for the implant to pass through. A pocket is then created where the new cheek implant is to be placed. Your oral surgeon can then pass the implant through the incision and into the pocket and secure it in place. This technique allows for minimal scarring with optimal results.
A typical cheek implant procedure can take up to two hours to complete but may be longer or shorter depending on the specific treatment plan your oral surgeon has designed for you. Some swelling and bruising is to be expected following your cheek implant surgical procedure. Your oral surgeon may prescribe medication to help manage post-operative discomfort. Please follow all pre- and post-operative guidelines to allow for optimal healing and a smooth recovery period.
