Liposuction of the face and neck works the same way as liposuction in other areas of the body — by removing excess fat from the intended area. Also known as facial contouring or neck contouring, liposuction can create a more youthful appearance by restoring fullness and smoothness to the face and neck area.
In general, patients seeking liposuction of the face and neck are looking to address one or more of the following:
- Sagging skin of the neck (turkey neck)
- Reduction or elimination of double chin
- More refined jawline and/or neckline
For most patients, liposuction of the face and neck can be performed using only local anesthesia. Once the area to be treated is numb, your surgeon will make one or two small incisions and insert a thin tube, from which excess fat will be removed. Once the surgical sites have been sutured, you will be bandaged and fitted with a chin strap to offer more support while you heal. Most patients return to work about a week after their procedure.
