Age, lifestyle, and environment are all contributing factors to the breakdown of collagen, the protein responsible for our skin’s firmness and elasticity. When collagen breaks down, fine lines and wrinkles appear. Although we cannot reverse the aging process, there are several safe and effective solutions to restoring or maintaining a youthful appearance.
Restylane is an injectable gel that is ideal for correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is most commonly used to treat nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth), but it can also treat several other areas of the face affected by wrinkles, such as around the mouth and between the eyebrows. It can also be injected into areas where more fullness is desired, such as the lips and cheeks.
The procedure is quick and easy, lasting around 15 minutes or less, depending on the area treated. A local anesthetic or topical cream is often used to numb the area beforehand. While results are immediate, swelling and bruising within the first few days are normal. Patients are given an ice pack after their Restylane procedure to reduce swelling and bruising.
How long the results of Restylane lasts vary from patient to patient, depending on the area treated, their metabolism, and lifestyle. On average, Restylane lasts six to nine months for wrinkle treatments, with lip treatments lasting around three to four months.
JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler intended for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and softening the appearance of facial folds. Similar to Restylane, it is composed of a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid. Like Restylane, it is most commonly used to treat smiles lines, also known as nasolabial folds. JUVÉDERM is safe, easy, and effective with minimal discomfort to the patient. On average, the benefits of JUVÉDERM can be experienced longer than other similar dermal fillers, but results vary from patient to patient.
JUVÉDERM in an injectable, which means that a very fine needle will guide the gel just under the dermal layer and into the area to be treated. Before JUVÉDERM is administered, a local anesthetic or topical cream may be used to numb the area. Because dermal fillers are a minimally invasive, nonsurgical procedure, recovery time is minimal and provides immediate results.
RADIESSE is an injectable gel filler intended to plump the skin where fullness has been lost. Moderate to severe lines and wrinkles are smoothed immediately upon injection. Over time, RADIESSE stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, providing long-lasting results. Clinically proven to last up to a year in most patients, RADIESSE is naturally absorbed into the body, leaving only the body’s natural collagen. RADIESSE is commonly used on the nasolabial folds, jaw line, jowls, and cheeks. It is not recommended as a lip filler.
Similar to other dermal fillers, RADIESSE is injected directly into the dermal layer using a fine needle. A topical cream or injectable anesthetic to numb the area may be used before injection. Results are instant, but bruising, swelling, redness, itchiness, and other side effects can occur. However, the side effects typically resolve within a few days.
