About Dr. Hunsaker
Dr. Hunsaker has been a member of our team since 2014. After he spent time performing cleft lip and palate surgeries and treating facial traumas in places such South America and Israel, he returned to the states interested in the cosmetics side of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He began to research where he could continue working on his passions and found Mountain State Oral & Facial Surgery. After visiting and shadowing in our practice for a week, he ended up returning to work here full time once he completed his residency.
Though he grew up on a farm in Idaho and didn’t always know he wanted to be an oral surgeon, he did always like helping people. His compassion combined with a friendly suggestion led him to dental school, which eventually brought him to oral surgery. He enjoys the broad scope of oral surgery and the fact that he can do so many different things all under one specialty. However, the most rewarding aspect, by far, is that he gets to work with patients that he feels comfortable with and a staff that is second to none in both skills and kindness.
Education and Residency
Dr. Hunsaker completed his bachelor’s degree at Utah State University with a major in business before entering dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Throughout dental school, Dr. Hunsaker was always top of his class, which led others to suggest he look into continuing his education with oral surgery. Upon finding that oral surgery was the most difficult specialty, Dr. Hunsaker was inspired and knew he was up for the challenge. He decided to take it a step further by enrolling in an integrated, six-year program at the University of Kentucky that resulted in the simultaneous completion of his required oral surgery residency and a medical degree.
After his training was complete, Dr. Hunsaker joined our practice and immediately became a valued member of our team. However, he chose not to end his training and instead immediately began preparing to earn his board certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed a rigorous written exam, as well as four separate oral exams, all of which tested his extensive knowledge of the oral and maxillofacial specialty and his judgment in various surgical situations. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Hunsaker is renowned for his exemplary knowledge and standards of care. In addition, he must continue his education and stay up to date with the latest technology and surgical techniques to maintain his diplomate status.
Family is Dr. Hunsaker’s number one priority. With a wife and four children under the age of eight, he dedicates all of his free time to spending time with them. He loves hanging out with his kids and even coaches some of their activities. He is also very active at their church.
